Power surge causes damages
The city is aware of the power surge that happened in Concourse Crescent and that they will assist the residents with claims where ever they can.
Residents of Concourse Crescent in Aston Manor are at their wits’ end with the power outages and high electricity bills in the last few months.
To make matters worse, vandals have sabotaged the mini-substation at Concourse Crescent causing a power surge damaging numerous residents’ electrical appliances.
The residents are also concerned that the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) isn’t taking their complaints seriously.

A resident of Concourse Crescent said he constantly phoned the municipality about the unlocked substation.
“Every time the Department of Energy comes out to put on a new lock it is broken within five days,” said the resident.
Another resident complained that the power surge has caused a lot of damages to their electrical appliances.
“My children and I lost our cellphones and even my work laptop was damaged by the power surge,” said Tanya Pereira, a resident on Breamer Street.
The residents on this road were also affected by the recent power surge.
The residents also complained about high electricity bills received since June this year.
Ward Clr Jaco Terblanche said, “According to the Municipal Systems Act and Municipal Structure Act, ward councillors cannot interfere in the operations of the municipality. If a resident contacts me and want to claim against the municipality I will provide the claim form and assist by referring the claim to the correct department.”
The Express sent a request for comment to the City of Ekurhuleni on August 6.
Zweli Dlamini the spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni said, “The CoE is aware of the power surge that happened in Concourse Crescent and we will assist the residents with claims where ever we can.”
