Eric Maloka said, “It was also reported that the house was initially abandoned for many years and it was a hijacked building being utilised by more than 28 residents.”

Security services and the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) firefighters responded to a house fire on Partridge Avenue in Kempton Park on August 30.

Rudolph Espach from P&C Security said the fire was reported by a member of the public.

“By the time I reached the scene the roof of the building already started to burn. The people who occupied the building had already started to evacuate the building. Some of the people tried to go back into the burning house to save their belongings,” said Espach.
