Arrests made in Birch Acres after attempted business robbery

The suspects were detained by Norkem Park SAPS and the firearm was sent for ballistic tests.

Two men were arrested on September 19 after attempting to rob a store in Birch Acres Shopping Centre.

Sgt Barbara Ferreira, the spokesperson for Norkem Park Police Station, said the owner of the store was locking the store at about 20:00 when he saw two men approaching.

“They pointed a firearm at the man’s business partner. The owner pressed his panic button. The two men fled when security arrived on the scene and security gave chase,” said Ferreira.

The security officers managed to recover an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects were detained by Norkem Park SAPS and the firearm was sent for ballistic tests.
