Lion Stars takes a stand against looting
Lion Stars, in conjunction with VIP Panthers, organised a soccer tournament themed No to Looting and Violence in Kempton Park.
Youth and sports development are among the focus points for Lion Stars Youth Foundation.
This was evident when soccer teams took to the fields on Saturday to take part in a u-15 soccer tournament organised by the foundation, in conjunction with VIP Panthers.
The tournament was held at the Rhodesfield Technical High School’s sports fields.
The foundation concentrates on empowering youngsters through sports, presenting them with opportunities and platforms to showcase their talents.

Life skills and lessons are also among the things the youth acquire through their engagement with the foundation.
Most, if not all, tournaments linked to Kempton Park’s Lion Stars Youth Foundation always have a special message and theme.
“This tournament’s theme was No to Looting and Violence in Kempton Park,” said Amanda Odoemelam, chairperson of the foundation.
“Our goal, as the foundation, has always been to get our youth off the streets and keep them away from negative influence and ensure they are occupied with more empowering activities. As a community, we try to educate them with the right morals and values such as saying no to any kind of violence.”
The teams that took part included Shani Stars, Sabelo United, Arsenal City, Thembisa Love and Peace, Lions Stars, Joburg United, Young Stars and Durbling football clubs.
The teams were split into Group A and B and competed throughout the day.
The four teams that qualified for the semi-finals were Arsenal City, Joburg United, Sabelo United and Young Stars. Arsenal and Sabelo made it to the finals, where Arsenal won 2-0.
“Thank you to all the teams that supported our tournament and to VIP Panthers for everything they did in assisting us in organising the tournament,” concluded Odoemelam.
