Bredell community unites to fix potholes

Bredell community donated funds towards fixing potholes in the area.

The Bredell community united to address and help eliminate some of the common issues they face.

The community members shared that they have been enduring a lot of municipal issues such as days without electricity, refuse removal not always being on time and an infestation of potholes.

“A message on our service delivery group came through from our CPF chairperson, Lani van der Walt, on January 18 asking for donations per household,” said one of the community members, who wished to remain anonymous.

“A few individuals took the initiative to fix the hellish potholes. Anton Prinsloo and Mark Visser were spearheading the initiative and our ward councillor, Pieter Henning, was also informed.

“Local hardware shops, businesses and individuals started to donate money, tar products and consumables.”

Bredell community donated funds towards an initiative of fixing potholes. Residents took it upon themselves to fix potholes and smooth gravel roads.

The resident said in one day the community managed to raise R10 000 and a lot of products.

“By Friday (January 21), the amount raised totalled R23 000 and a substantial amount of potholes were history in one day,” said anonymous.

“The roads done include Shamrock Road, Clover Street and Seventh Avenue.

“Someone sent a grader and a TLB and the gravel road that needed attention was attended to and smoothed in a few hours. They asked the community to nominate other gravel roads that needs to be graded.

“I am proud to report that I stay in a community that cares and have opened bank accounts for projects like this. I am proud of individuals who can successfully run with such initiatives.”

The team experienced delays due to the rain but continued with the project afterwards.
