Resident awaits clean-up after pipe repairs

I've had teams arrive to tell me the pipe is repaired. Each time I have to reply that I am well aware that it's repaired, but when will the hole be filled.

Editor – On February 13, I had a burst water pipe on my pavement.

It took three days for the City of Ekurhuleni to repair it. Two weeks and five reference numbers later, I am still waiting for the hole to be filled.

The irritating part is the soil is lying across the road and is a hazard at night. When they dug the hole, I asked that the soil be moved onto the pavement. The reply was that the cars must drive carefully. The soil is also being washed away by the rain, causing further damage.

A few days ago, another water pipe burst on the same street about 200m away. It was repaired and the hole filled the next day. Surely, it was easy enough to fill a second hole at the same time. It’s a straight road and the holes are within sight of each other.

Our street group has also reported this and Simon Lapping, our ward councillor, has apparently escalated the issue.

What now?
