Her secret to a fulfilling and long life is to be humble, thankful, flexible and satisfied.

Lottie, born in 1922, grew up on a farm in the Groot Marico area as one of nine children in a loving and happy family.

During her 50 years of marriage, she lived in Krugersdorp, Durban and later in Bedfordview.

Her husband, Gert, an electrical and mechanical engineer, developed and designed several machines in the steel mill industry.

This allowed the couple to travel Europe, the UK, Israel, Hong Kong and the Far East.

Wherever they lived, Lottie always joined in church activities and community groups.

Her passion was flower art and she was well known in Bedfordview for her beautiful massed flower arrangements.

She completed several courses in traditional, freestyle and Ikebana flower art under prominent facilitators.

Lottie also presented classes in these styles. For the past six years, she has been living at Herfsland.

Looking back on a century, she survived drought, the ’33 depression, World War II, Spanish flu and even Covid-19.

Lottie’s two daughters are teachers and she has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
