Over 100 athletes attended the 15km fun run aimed at honouring the late Kotso.
“Coach Kotso had a training camp called The Champions Team and used to train long and short distance runners at the Barnard Stadium,” said Comfort Selebi, coach and race organiser.
“Unfortunately, he died in June last year because of Covid-19 complications. He was a dedicated coach who let his athletes become the best they can be,” said Selebi.
“Athletes from different running clubs would meet at 17:30 from Monday to Thursday to be trained by him at a small fee.”
Selebi, who was also Kotso’s assistant, described the late coach as one who was passionate about coaching athletes.

“He had a full-time job but called coaching his other job, even though he wasn’t doing it for profit,” expressed Selebi.
“Because of his passion and generosity, he would go as far as buying running shoes, pay registration fees for races and arrange transport for his athletes to attend races. He was the type of coach who would attend training even when he was not feeling well and all he would say was, ‘I love my job’.
“He had an eye for talent, which resulted in him developing many athletes and producing a lot of champions. Most of his athletes were podium finishers, turning normal athletes into elite runners.”
“As Champions Team, we felt we needed to honour our coach, and we were overwhelmed by the support we received,” shared Selebi.
“We expected 50 to 70 runners but about 120 athletes showed their love and support. We had fun and felt overjoyed that our Champion Coach got honoured in this manner. Thank you to all who attended for their support.”
