The meetings will be held every last Wednesday of the month.

Sr Colleen Goosen said dementia is the term used to define various conditions in which the progress degeneration of the brain affects an individual’s memory, emotions and thinking process.

“Symptoms of dementia differ for everyone. Some experience memory loss or disorientation, while others find difficulty in speech or the concept of understanding what is being said,” said Goosen.

She said an individual’s thinking abilities become impaired, which can interfere with daily activities, like eating regularly or taking prescribed medication.

Other symptoms are confusion and delusion, irritability, restlessness and lack of restraint.

The next meeting is expected to be held on March 30 at the Herfsland library at 21 Cactus Road in Allen Grove at 16:00.
