Thembisan police officers work together to improve their teamwork

"SAPS members go through a lot. They experience traumatic scenes and hardly get counselling because of their busy schedules.

The B Relief, led by Lt-Col Sthembile Zwane and accompanied by SAPS Employee Health Services, Spiritual Services POWA, YANA (You Are Not Alone) and Khuluma Ndoda, travelled to Suikerbos Nature Reserve for a team-building exercise on March 30.

To relax, the participants took part in various instructive and motivational games, as well as hiking and outdoor experiences.

Capt Mumsy Sibanyoni, a psychologist, said the objective of the outing and team building was to motivate members, encourage them to work together and remind commanders to understand their teams, recognise indicators when someone is not psychologically fit and refer them.

“SAPS members go through a lot. They experience traumatic scenes and hardly get counselling because of their busy schedules.

“Behind the blue uniforms are human beings, mothers and fathers, who go through the same life events as any other human being, and who must speak out rather than resort to domestic violence, anger or shutting down,” she said.

Mr Warren from Bedfordview’s Shosholoza gifted the team roughly 100 T-shirts.
