Update: Billboard on Pretoria Road is gone

This comes after Express brought the issue of the billboard obstructing the traffic sign to CoE’s attention.

The billboard on Pretoria Road, acknowledged by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) as obstructing the view of one of the low-height bridge signs, has been removed.

This comes after Express brought the issue of the billboard obstructing the traffic sign to CoE’s attention.

According to CoE’s statement, directed to Express regarding the billboard, the applicant lodged and subsequently obtained approval but not at the position where the board was erected.

“The location of the billboard is detrimental and a contravention notice has been served to the owners of the board to have them remove the billboard,” read part of the statement.

Within days of Express receiving communication from CoE, the billboard was seen being removed.

The billboard was, for years, partially obstructing the traffic sign meant to alert truck drivers about the bridge height limit.

This was a concern, as trucks continuously got stuck under the Elgin Road subway, and signage was sighted as one of the factors that would help reduce the occurrence, which also saw the increase of such signs being erected on various neighbouring roads.

The billboard has been removed and the traffic sign is in full view of motorists, especially truck drivers.
