Bophelong Fitness Club celebrates Freedom Day

Freedom day celebrated in style

Bophelong Fitness Club (BFC) celebrated Freedom Day by giving back to the community of Freedom Park known as the Phumasilwe informal settlement in Thembisa.
The fitness club hosted its first donation drive on April 27 by donating food parcels and clothes to underprivileged members of Ward 100.
This was made possible through the social initiative programme Bophelong Fitness Club Investment Movement.
Cathrine Mathebe, BFC founder, said they donated food parcels and distributed pre-loved clothes to identified needy families from the informal settlement.
“We also distributed pre-loved clothes to orphans and locals. This drive was supported by our local fitness clubs and Minanawe Community Care Partners, Thick Lifestyle and Ward 89 Ward committee members,” said Mathebe.
“We are planning to do another community outreach programme and we seeking more donations from the community. We look to partner with local businesses, NPOs and community leaders,” she said.
Tshwarelo Pudi, Ward 89 councillor, and Mluleki Khota, Ward 10 councillor, helped with the handing over of the food parcels and commended BFC for helping those in need.
Sizwe Msiza, a Ward 89 committee candidate, spoke on behalf of the recipients and urged community leaders to take notice.
“It is important as community leaders to support one another. What Bophelong has done is that they kept a child warm and fed,” said Msiza.
“The economy is bad for most people and through initiative like this we can offer relief to families in need.”
Throughout the day different fitness clubs encouraged the audience in attendance to engage in physical fitness. They shared tips on the importance of exercising.
