Anti-Drug Forum hosts a fun march
Community concerned over rising numbers of youngsters falling into substance abuse.
Members of the Xubeni Section in Thembisa joined the Thembisa Anti-Drug Forum on April 30, in the fight against substance abuse plaguing their community.
The campaign began with a fun march from Liliba Engen Garage that ended at Marulane Sports Ground where Miss Universe finalist 2021 Lebogang Hlakola presented a motivational speech on the impact of substance abuse in the community.
According to the chairperson of the Zion Health Care Association, Bishop Micheal Mtshali, the march was sparked by an alarming rate of complaints by parents in the community of the Xubeni Section.
“It was not only the community of Xubeni facing the challenge of drugs in the Thembisa community.
“When this initiative was started, community leaders supported the campaign from the get-go. We also wanted to make it clear that the issue of drug and substance abuse was an issue that affected many parts of Thembisa such as Mayibuye and Ivory Park,” said Mtshali.
Committee member of Thembisa Anti-Drug Forum, Duke Maseko mentioned to the Thembisan that it was heartbreaking to see youngsters falling into the trap of drug and substance abuse.
“When we mention the issue of drugs in our community, we talk about something that is now common in almost every household,” said Maseko.
Maseko said drug addiction can be considered an epidemic, giving residents of the community a warning on the importance of such campaigns,” said Maseko.
