‘Africa Day fest’ happening this Saturday

Enjoy a diverse mix of food, music, arts and culture at the Africa Day Fest at the Festival Mall this Saturday.

As part of the Africa Month festivities, Festival Mall, in partnership with Roots Butchery and JM Busha 54, will be celebrating memorably.
Africa Day Fest at the mall will include the hosting of several African state embassies on May 28 in the parking lot.
The embassies will be showcasing their culture through food, music and fashion.
The event promises to be a celebration of Africa's rich variety of tastes and flavours in a fun-filled family-friendly environment. The attendees will experience a genuine taste, feel and sense of the cultural wealth of Africa.
Traditional dance group performances with fashion and jewellery from African countries are among the activities to expect on the day. The event aims to encourage social cohesion among Africans throughout the world.
Africa Day is celebrated on May 25 and marks the day the Organisation of African Unity was formed. On this day, 30 of 32 African leaders signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1963.
Africa Day acknowledges the progress that Africa has made while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces in a global environment. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent and around the world.
It is an important day for Africans because it brings communities together to celebrate the vast cultures. All 54 countries in Africa enjoy
different languages and cultures.
The following countries will be showcased on Saturday: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda.
According to Daphne Smith, portfolio manager of Festival Mall, they could not think of a more fitting way to celebrate our African roots.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to host the festival as the first of its kind. We hope for this to become an annual attraction.”
Neo Segakweng, executive director for JM Busha 54, said: “We aspire to make a sustained and significant positive impact on the African continent in a bid to promote peace, unity and reduce the levels of poverty. We believe that this can be achieved through the efforts of many.
“This festival is part of celebrating Africans in their many cultures and promoting peace, unity and understanding among all Africans. We are honoured to be part of this significant initiative.”
The festival is scheduled to run from 10:00 to 16:00.
