Ivory Park SAPS raise awareness about child protection

Local law enforcement officers have visited local schools to promote awareness about child safety in order to ensure that children are protected from violence, exploitation, abuse, and neglect.

As part of Child Protection Month, the Ivory Park SAPS Social Crime Prevention Team visited Mikateka Primary School on May 27 to address learners.

Grade Five to Seven learners gathered and learned about different forms of abuse that can occur at home, on the street, or even at school, including bullying.

Captain Nozipho Makhoba, the head of Ivory Park’s Social Crime Prevention Desk, advised learners to avoid walking alone, to never accept lifts at random, not to talk to strangers on their phones and to report any form of abuse to their parents, teachers and even the police, depending on the situation.

“Learners should never allow themselves to be touched inappropriately and should report such hostile gestures to their parents, instructors and the police,” said Makhoba.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, supported the community outreach project as it will support the battle against crime in communities, particularly in private spaces where domestic violence continues.
