This follows a mob justice incident that claimed the life of an alleged drug dealer.
Hlulani Mashaba, media liaison of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, said the incident led to the arrest of several members of the Ivory Park community by the local police.

“The department used the opportunity to encourage the community of Ivory Park not to take the law into their own hands but to report all criminal elements to the police,” said Mashaba.
He said authorities will mobilise the community to join the police in their efforts to root out criminal elements in the precinct.
“Things aren’t going well in this community. There’s violence here and people are not happy about all the violence, murders, drug abuse and gender-based violence,” said Gauteng Department of Community Safety’s eastern corridor director Mziwethu Xaba.

“Community members must look out for people who behave suspiciously. Drug dealers must know we will look out for them.
“Anyone who sees drug dealers must report to the police,” said Ivory Park SAPS station commander Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo.
The station commander advised the community to establish a committee of trusted residents who can regularly communicate with the police as part of crime prevention.
