Underage driver hits cyclist and crashes into Birchleigh North property

According to Sgt Barbara-Ferreira, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the youngster allegedly stole the vehicle.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he lost control of his parent’s vehicle in Birchleigh North.

The vehicle overturned and landed on its roof inside a residential property.

The vehicle landed on its roof after the driver lost control and hit a cyclist before it landed in a residential property in Birchleigh North.

Gau-Med Emergency Services responded to the scene on August 5 on Pongola River Drive and Strydom Street where the youngster also hit a cyclist.

“The cyclist was on his way from work when he got hit,” said Ona Ndala, spokesperson Gau-Med Emergency Services.

“The patient sustained serious injuries and had to be treated on scene before being transported to hospital in a critical condition. The driver escaped unharmed.”

According to Sergeant Barbara Ferreira, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the youngster allegedly took the vehicle without permission.

“His parents had reported the vehicle only to find it on its roof on another person’s property,” said Ferreira.

“The suspect faces charges of using a vehicle without the owner’s consent and reckless and negligent driving.”
