Local club honours Women’s Month with big public names

With the theme, Wild and Wonderful Women, the speakers showed confidence and skill in delivering high calibre speeches.

Once again Village Toastmasters addressed a relevant topic at their meeting.

The group’s latest meeting, which was held on August 16, centred on Women’s Month.

With the theme, Wild and Wonderful Women, the speakers showed confidence and skill in delivering high calibre speeches.

Well-known female leaders such as Thuli Madonsela, Helen Suzman and Caster Semenya were mentioned during the evening’s agenda.

A few new names were added to the list, including Dr Elmi Muller who is changing organ transplant practices; Saray Khumalo, the first black woman to summit Mount Everest; and Major Mandisa Mfeka, who is the first black woman fighter pilot in South Africa.

The meeting was closed with a quote from ‘Mama Africa’ Miriam Makebe, reminding those in attendance that girls are our future mothers and need to be focused on.

Village Toastmasters Club meets every third Tuesday of the month at 1 Park Street Restaurant, situated at the corner of 1 Park Street and Hawley Road, Bedfordview.
