The annual campaign intents to raise awareness about children with disabilities.

It also encourages community members to donate child nappies and adult incontinence pants between October 3 and December 3.

“People with disabilities often have a disproportionately high need for nappies from childhood and beyond, requiring the use of nappies into their teen and adult years”, said Therina Wentzel, national director at Edenvale-based NCPD.

“Disposable nappies are expensive and often unaffordable to many families of children with disabilities.

“Without a nappy, children are often denied dignity, comfort, freedom of movement and their health is compromised,” Therina said.

This year community members are encouraged to participate in person in NCPD’s Nappy Fun Run, Walk or Wheel to be held on November 5 at Johannesburg Zoo.

The NCPD appealed to community members to support its nappy collection drive by donating nappies (larger than standard baby sizes) or by making a monetary donation (Nappy Rands) towards the purchase of nappies.

Donations can be made online on the Nappy Run website at https://nappyrun.org.za/donate-now/
