KEMPTON POWER: Damage, faults and theft blamed for latest outage as teams work to restore power

Repair work to the transformer commenced this morning and it is anticipated to be concluded by 21:00 however efforts will be made to restore power earlier.

In a power update at 15:00 from Kempton Park ward councillor Amanda Davison the outage was blamed on damages by third party contractors, multiple cable faults and attempted theft.

“On the weekend of December 9 the Kempton Park area had three major power outages affecting the Esther Park, Aston Manor, Glen Marais and Pomona areas.

“The causes of the outages were, damages by third party contractors, multiple cable faults and attempted theft.”

She added that after continuous work the outages affecting Glen Marais, Pomona and Esther Park were resolved and power was restored to customers.

“An attempt was made on Saturday night to repair the fault to the cable affecting parts of Aston Manor and the Noag Village Estate in Pomona was conducted by the team.

“There was an alleged attack on the officials by community members, whilst working on Mirabel Street and the team had to withdraw from site,” she said.

Repairs resumed on Sunday where the cable theft unit guards assisted in protecting the team.

“While repairs were being conducted 4 hour loadshedding came into effect, leaving the team without means to finish repairs.

“The team was dispatched to investigate. Repair work to the transformer commenced on Monday (today) and are anticipated to be concluded by 21:00 however efforts will be made to restore earlier.
