Thembisa residents unhappy with uncollected refuse

“It is obvious that the CoE is experiencing serious issues in providing services such as refuse collection."

Residents are forced to spend their days drowning in foul-smelling mountains of waste as a result of illegal dumping.

Members of the community voiced their dissatisfaction at the Tembisa Community Forum because they do not get enough information on why their refuse was not collected.

According to Xolani Mnisi, Tembisa Community Forum (TCF) media liaison, concerned citizens have been sending complaints to the CoE, describing the terrible conditions they are experiencing as a result of the lack of waste collection.

“It is obvious that the CoE is experiencing serious issues in providing services such as refuse collection.

The TCF is worried and dissatisfied since it appears like things are getting worse by the day.

“To make matters worse, the CoE lacks the courtesy to inform the homeowners of the inconvenience or to offer an apology. Come month’s end, we will still be required to pay for services that have not been provided.

“The mayor announced in August that they will be conducting service drives, enhancing service delivery, and resolving the billing issue, but nothing has come to pass.

The TCF has made repeated attempts to contact the CoE without success. As a result, the TCF is extremely upset by this.

Thembisan contacted the municipality on January 16 to seek clarity on the matter.

The city was given until January 17 to respond.

The CoE requested an extension to respond to questions from The Thembisan and it was granted.

The questions sent to the city focused on why refuse is not being collected and why some communities received services while others did not.
