144 suspects busted by law enforcement units

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 67 arrests for crimes including murder.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 144 suspects and recovered 49 motor vehicles and 10 firearms between January 20 and 26.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 67 arrests for crimes including murder, assault GBH, rape, shoplifting, theft, possession of stolen property, robbery, house break-in, domestic violence and hijacking.

Forty-nine hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 18 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Ten unlicensed firearms were recovered and 11 arrests were made.

In further policing, 48 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, Mandrax, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine were confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations in all cases continue.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
