According to GIEMW’s communication officer, Zamasishi Madlala, the organisation also seeks to advocate for improved mental and emotional health awareness for all citizens.

From 2019, the organisation has been visiting schools, churches and other public places, doing outreach programmes.

“Since inception, the organisation has been operating from the founders homestead with several other meetings being held at public places such as restaurants.

The launching of an office in Clayville will provide an opportunity for GIEMW to have a home, a reference point, a meeting place as an activation launch pad for all our campaigns.

“It will also afford the community around us to have an independent access point, information and wellness centre as we are going to be setting up support groups and various other activities related to wellness at the offices.

“Now that we have an office, setting up a strategic team is now achievable with lesser challenges.

“The team’s focus is going to include managing outreach programmes such as radio interviews; road shows; workshops in schools, colleges, churches and companies; setting up support groups in Clayville and Thembisa; building a network of professional counsellors and volunteers from various colleges and universities to implement an education and support projects in existing institutions and to also establish a wellness/training centre that can equip the community on skills development and centre for support groups.”

“We at GIEMW are on a mission to make sure that everyone affected by mental and emotional issues have a good quality of life and a fair chance in society.

The community at large has received us well and our aim, as a first step, is to help people in and around Clayville and Ekurhuleni achieve mental and emotional well-being and we hope to do this in partnership with the several other stakeholders.

“Our secondary mission is to advocate for improved mental and emotional health awareness for all citizens of South Africa, Africa and beyond.

It is our belief that a mentally and emotionally healthy community is a more productive community.

“We also aim to advocate against the discrimination of those suffering from mental health illnesses and eradication of stigma attached to mental health sufferers,” said Madlala.
