One person arrested during violent protest in Rabie Ridge

Protesters took to the streets to voice their anger over loadshedding and extended power outages following loadshedding.

Police fired rubber bullets at protesters blocking roads at the entrance to Rabie Ridge this afternoon, May 10.

One person was arrested after the protests turned violent.

Residents took to the streets earlier to voice their anger over loadshedding and extended power outages following loadshedding.

Some residents report not having power for more than 27 hours.

Shortly after 13:30 police officers started to clear affected roads including Modderfontein and Freedom roads.

Police officers have dispersed the protesters.
