Community bids slain CPF patroller farewell
Norkem Park sector three patrol commander, Tina Saal told the Express that Thobogo was always friendly and ready to assist his community.
Community members, family, friends and fellow crime fighters gathered on May 7 to remember the life of Thobogo Duze.

Thobogo, a Norkem Park CPF patroller, was shot and killed in a hijacking in front of his house on Skut Street on April 26.

The memorial service kicked off with a remembrance drive through the community before all stakeholders gathered at Thobogo’s house where they shared the memories they had of him with his family.
Norkem Park sector three patrol commander, Tina Saal, told the Express that Thobogo was always friendly and ready to assist his community.
“He was one of the most active patrollers in the area and would always go out to help anyone in need,” she said.
Saal added that she would never forget Thobogo’s smile and his willingness to help his fellow man.

“His murder was a terrible loss for his community. Everyone in the community knew him.”
Sector three manager for the Norkem Park SAPS, Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira, said the station was devastated to lose such a dedicated community patroller.

“Thobogo was always more than willing to help in any situation. He was always one of the first on any scene in his community,” she said.
Norkem Park CPF exco member Gina Jacobs said the forum was in mourning following the loss of Thobogo.
“He was the perfect example of a dedicated member of the community.”
Following the event, the Norkem Park CPF handed over donations from the community to help Thobogo’s family cover the costs of his funeral.
Thobogo is survived by his parents as well as his wife and daughter.

On April 30, two men from Thembisa south were arrested for their role in the murder of Thobogo and the subsequent hijacking of his vehicle.

“Both Thobogo’s vehicle and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime were recovered by officers from the Trio Task Team,” said Ferreira.
The two appeared in court last week where the case against them was postponed to this week.

Ferreira said the possibility of more arrests in connection with the case has not been ruled out.
