DA hands memorandum of complaints to Kempton Police

Terblanche said the contents of the memorandum included a request for the establishment of a specialised unit to deal with human trafficking in Kempton Park as well as a unit to curb rampant cable theft.

“There is a serious challenge of drugs, human trafficking, and cable theft in Kempton Park, yet there are no specialised units at the police station to deal with these issues.

On May 13, constituency head for the DA in Kempvale, MPL Bronwynn Engelbrecht and Ward 16 Clr Jaco Terblanche led a picket outside the Kempton Park Police Station.

“There is also a severe shortage of patrol vehicles for crime prevention and to ensure police visibility,” said Terblanche.

During the event, a memorandum was handed to the management of the police station demanding the establishment of a specialised unit to tackle serious crimes.

Terblanche said the contents of the memorandum included a request for the establishment of a specialised unit to deal with human trafficking in Kempton Park as well as a unit to curb rampant cable theft.

“We also called for the establishment of a specialised infrastructure unit to fight against vandalism of streetlights and substations during load-shedding.”

He added that the group also called for the establishment of an anti-corruption desk and victim support unit.

“The community centre of the Kempton Park SAPS needs to be user-friendly and provide professional service, and there needs to be an increase in Vispol police officers to ensure police visibility in Kempton Park,” said Terblanche.

Officers from Kempton Park SAPS were given 14 days to respond to the demands listed in the memorandum.
