Ngcobo said family members who discovered the man called officers from Ivory Park to their residence in Ext 3 earlier that day.

“The deceased man was last seen on May 9.

“Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was steaming in a very small space. He was covered in plastic and next to a burning gas stove. It was not immediately clear what substance he burned and inhaled on the gas stove.”

The police have opened an inquest for investigations.

“Until we have concluded the investigation into this death, we may not know what was going on in that space. It is suffice to say a tragedy has happened,” said Ngcobo.

The brigadier has asked people to exercise caution around fire, particularly now that winter has arrived, as fire-related fatalities are common during this time.

Brigadier Ngcobo further urged families to take care of each other.
