Public relations and communication co-ordinator for the society, Gaahele Mokgoro, said the wheelchair campaign is a a transformative advocacy initiative designed to promote understanding and empathy.

Each March, during Intellectual Disability Awareness Month, CEOs and leaders from various industries spend a workday in a wheelchair to gain deeper insight into the daily challenges faced by individuals living with disabilities, particularly those relying on wheelchairs.
Over the last seven years, the campaign has reached thousands, garnering significant media attention and challenging societal perceptions about disability.
One of its aims is to foster conversations about inclusivity, accessibility in public spaces and the need for policy reforms, making an impact beyond Gauteng and across SA.
About the award, Coetzee said, “We are humbled by this recognition and extend our gratitude to the Gauteng office of the premier.
