According to the EMPD media liaison, Thabiso Makgatho, the EMPD members on patrol in Kempton Park saw the three male suspects after noticing suspicious behaviour on the road.

Car jammers and a chisel were found inside the vehicle of the hijackers.

“The EMPD officers followed the suspects to where they tried to hijack a car near the Kempton Park Police Station.

The members gave chase and apprehended the suspects on the corner of Monument and Noordrand roads,” said Makgatho.

One suspect was arrested, and the others fled the scene.

“The suspects were travelling in a blue Ford Everest and tried to hijack a white Toyota bakkie,” said Makgatho.

It was learnt that the vehicle the suspects were in was stolen in Centurion, Pretoria.

“The members did a check on the license disc of the Ford and found it stolen in Lyttelton. They also found evidence of car signal jammers and a chisel bar in the suspect possession.”
