Ivory Park couple arrested after rape of a minor

An Ivory Park couple has been arrested for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

The arrest was carried out by the Ekurhuleni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
According to Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane, the victim is the granddaughter of the 45-year-old woman who will be charged with concealing a crime of rape, allegedly committed by her live-in boyfriend aged 53.
“The 53-year-old man was arrested after preliminary investigations revealed that he may have committed rape on the minor on more than one occasion.
“The following morning it emerged that the woman was aware that her granddaughter had been violated,” said Matimulane.

“Instead of taking the matter to the police she entered into negotiations with her partner and his family. Both parties agree on a fine for the man.”
He added that the details of the agreed fine were not clear.
“The community found out about the woman’s role in the matter and decided to take her to the police station, where statements were taken and she was detained in the cells pending her appearance in court,” Matimulane said.
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander for the Ivory Park SAPS, expressed his horror at the arrangement in which the child’s rights were disregarded for the sake of love and money.

“We thank the community who, on hearing what had happened to the girl, prioritised the youngster’s rights by bringing the grandmother to us to account for her alleged poor judgement,” said Ngcobo.
