According to Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane, the thieves followed the potential husband who had to pay lobola for his future wife from a bank where he had withdrawn a sizable sum of money.
“The four suspects arrived at a property and demanded the money, which the future husband had already given to individuals within the house in addressing the lobola issue.
“After failing to give the suspects money, the suspects immediately entered the home where the delegates and the host family were and made them lie on the ground.
“The robbers fled the area as quickly as they arrived after taking the money and their cellphones.

“The SAPS are investigating a case of robbery,” said Matimulane.
For the safety of the public, the Ivory Park police, under the direction of Station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, are pleading with residents not to withdraw large sums of money.
“As much as lobola issues are traditional affairs, nothing should stop us from moving with the times. A challenge is that moving large sums of money is not safe,” said Ngcobo.
Electronic transfer of money is safe for all parties involved at all times.
