Several suspects arrested during operation in Ivory Park

45 suspects were arrested for allegedly being in the country illegally, driving while under the influence and possession of and dealing in drugs.

A multidisciplinary operation was launched by the local police on the night of April 16 with the assistance of other partners and it was a resounding success.

Stakeholders working together with the SAPS during the operation included the traffic police, the metro police from both Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg, the Department of Home Affairs, Gauteng’s Department of Community Safety and Environmental personnel from Johannesburg City Council.

During the high-density operation in the Ivory Park policing area, the authority of the state was felt as 45 suspects were arrested for allegedly being in the country illegally, driving while under the influence and possession of and dealing in drugs.

The arrest of two individuals from Ext 2, Ivory Park for drug peddling, according to Captain Ben Matimulane of the Ivory Park SAPS, was the standout task. They were found to have Mandrax tablets worth R70 000.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has congratulated the intelligence service for the job well done.

“We thank our colleagues and their sources for this outstanding job,” said Ngcobo.

All of these suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
