Mob justice leaves one dead in Hospitalview

Acting Tembisa station commander Colonel Elite Mabitsela strongly denounced the acts of mob justice.

The Tembisa police were alerted to a murder scene on May 24 where a 42-year-old man had been fatally assaulted in front of a house in Hospital View, Thembisa.

Constable Patricia Mgijima, the spokesperson for the Tembisa SAPS, said that an eyewitness claimed to have seen the deceased being ushered by a group of people who claimed to be patrollers.

The group accused the victim of cable theft.

“When the police arrived, the man was already certified dead by the paramedics and his family from Moriting Section were also at the scene,” said Mgijimi.

“The community is cautioned from enforcing the law on their own because it is still illegal in South Africa for one person to kill another. People must stop incriminating themselves.

“The police urge the community to find the person accused of having stolen anything, turn them over to the authorities, and let justice be served,” said Mabitsela.
