Shooting incident at a local hostel

“The 30-year-old brother of the deceased managed to escape unharmed and disappeared without a trace.”

The police received a report of a shooting at around 16:30 on May 29 while they attended to a roadblock on Andrew Mapheto Drive, which is close to the Ehlanzeni Hostel.

According to Constable Patricia Mgijimi, spokesperson for Thembisa SAPS, when the police arrived at the hostel, they discovered a 32-year-old man’s body lying in an open area in front of the hostel with two gunshot wounds.

“Further investigations revealed that the deceased was the same person who had previously been shot and wounded on May 28, by a group of unidentified persons while riding in a Toyota Quantum.

“The 30-year-old brother of the deceased managed to escape unharmed and disappeared without a trace.”

Colonel Nthipe Boloka, the commander of the Tembisa South Police Station, was informed of conflict between residents from uMsinga and Nqutu in KZN when speaking to the hostel Indunas. They did not specify what would be the point of contention.

“Neighbouring police stations helped us to escort women and children who wanted to leave the hospital to do just that,” said Mgijimi.
