Boy (11) shot and man killed during home invasion in Thembisa

The police are on the lookout for the two suspects who claimed the life of a man and attempted to murder an 11-year-old boy in a house robbery.

Tragedy struck a family living in Umthambeka Section on April 3 when armed robbers entered their rented room at around midnight.

Tembisa South SAPS officers responded to the scene at about 00:43 and proceeded to investigate a case of murder, attempted murder and house robbery.

It is believed that a woman, her son and her boyfriend were the occupants of the room.

Both the woman’s boyfriend and her son were shot.

The woman’s boyfriend was declared dead at the scene while her son was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

According to the police’s Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, the officers who responded to the scene were informed by the mother that two suspects forced entry into her room.

“One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. The two suspects demanded money, and the mother’s boyfriend said there was no money.

“The suspect with a firearm shot the son, who is aged 11, before turning the gun on the woman’s boyfriend.

“The woman ended up giving the suspects the money that was supposed to be for rent,” Machakela said.

It is believed that the men also took a TV and other items before fleeing the scene.

Police confirmed that the two suspects are still on the run.
