Suspects abandon vehicle reported as robbed behind EMPD precinct

“The results positively stated the hatch-back was reported robbed or hijacked from the owner that morning in the Ivory Park area.”

Officers from the EMPD Thembisa Precinct on April 25 at around 08:30 recovered an abandoned Nissan hatchback on DM Marokane Road.

The vehicle was positively identified as being hijacked in the Ivory Park vicinity.

Officers were dealing with administration work in the Lekaneng Section when they noticed two men acting suspiciously through the windows.

Officers said the men drove into the area at high speed before leaving behind a maroon Nissan hatchback and fleeing into the nearby informal settlement.

EMPD spokesperson Marie Mashishi said the officers approached the scene to assess the abandoned vehicle.

“The unusual scene drew the attention of officers and they went out to investigate further. They carefully approached and tested the suspicious Nissan using the displayed VIN and the registration/number plate.

“The results positively stated the hatch-back was reported robbed or hijacked from the liable owner that morning in the Ivory Park area.”

All stakeholders, including the SAPS fingerprints section, were called to the scene, and the recovered Nissan was later towed to the Thembisa Police Station for safekeeping and further investigation.
