Local flying squad arrests six suspects and recover two vehicles

Six suspects were arrested by BFS between June 3 and June 6 for crimes such as drug possession and robbery.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested six suspects and recovered two motor vehicles between June 3 and June 6.

On June 3 at around 16:00, officers received information of a person dealing in drugs at Tswelopele, Ext 8, Ivory Park.

On arrival at the address, the officers spotted and searched a suspect fitting the description.

The members arrested a 35-year-old suspect when they found him in possession of five packets of crystal methamphetamine and five half tablets of Mandrax.

Officers patrolling Benoni on June 6 received an alert of two suspects on a motorcycle who had robbed two persons on foot in separate incidents.

At around 13:00, they received a notification about the suspects pulled over by security officers at the corners of Malherbe and Pretoria roads, Rynfield.

The BFS members responded and found security personnel from Nojack, Legendary Guardians and Afriforum with the suspects.

A search of the suspects led to the recovery of the first victim’s handbag and two of her cell phones as well as another thirteen bankcards, a Zimbabwean identity document allegedly belonging to a second victim and two imitation firearms resembling Colt and Glock pistols.

The officers immediately arrested the suspects and booked in all items found as exhibits, while the Suzuki GSXR motorcycle was impounded, as it was used in the commission of an offence.

On the same evening around 21:30 BFS members in Daveyton pulled over a Nissan Qashqai on the corners of Heald and D M Mthimunye streets for driving recklessly.

During a search of the vehicle and three suspects, BFS members recovered four packets of crushed rohypnol, eight packets of dagga, thirteen packets of crystal methamphetamine, six packets of nyaope (heroin) and one Mandrax tablet.

The three suspects aged 31 to 40 years were immediately arrested and had a charge of bribery added when they offered the police members R8 000 for their release.

The members handed over the suspects and exhibits to Daveyton SAPS.

In further policing, BFS members recovered two abandoned vehicles, a blue Toyota Hilux GD6 found on Modderfontein Road, President Park, reported stolen on a Naledi case and a white Toyota Quantum found at Ehlanzeni Hostel, Thembisa, reported hijacked on a Johannesburg Central case.

Investigation continues

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of dealing in and possession of drugs, robbery, possession of stolen goods and bribery.
