Thembisa teacher sentenced to life for rape of learner (13)

During proceedings, the court heard that on October 19, 2015, Makgota asked a 13-year-old learner to get into his car.

A 46-year-old former teacher Bethuel Lesetja Makgota was recently sentenced to five life terms by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for five counts of rape, which occurred in 2015 and 2016.

During proceedings, the court heard that on October 19, 2015, Makgota asked a 13-year-old learner to get into his car.

He then drove her to a house in Clayville where he raped her.

Between October 21 and 29, 2015, Makgota again took the young learner to the same house and raped her multiple times.

On April 11, 2016, Makgota again took his victim to the same house and raped her.

The victim disclosed the rape to her mother, who helped her open a case against Makgota.

The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Jackey Baloyi for investigation.

The court sentenced Makgota to a onetime term for each time he raped his 13-year-old victim.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has lauded the investigating work of Baloyi.
