Shots fired following Bredell ATM bombing

Eight armed men held employees hostage before blasting open the ATM at the intersection of Third Avenue and Eighth Road.

In the early hours of this morning, October 21, various units responded to reports that an ATM at an Engen garage in Bredell was bombed.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, the incident occurred around 01:00.

Ditshego said various units responded to the scene including the SAPS’ explosives unit.

“Eight unknown armed men entered the garage at the corner of Third Avenue and Eighth Road.

“They held the employees hostage while some of the perpetrators proceeded to the ATM, planted explosives, and triggered a blast,” said Ditshego.

“The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. Shots were fired at the getaway car,” she said.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
