Police uncover marijuana cultivation operation in Croydon
Tents were used to grow the plants and the drying process was completed in the garage. The suspect could not produce a cultivation license.
Sebenza Police uncovered a dagga cultivation operation during a routine patrol on Tuesday afternoon.
“At approximately 15:15 on December 10, Sergeant Z. Zwane and Constable T.S. Machavha were conducting a stop-and-search operation in Croydon when they stopped a white double-cab Toyota bakkie,” said Sebenza SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso.
After obtaining permission to search the vehicle, officers discovered three small packets of dagga.
The driver revealed that he had purchased the dagga for R600 from an address on Sarena Road in Croydon.

“The officers escorted the driver to the property, where the cash he claimed to have used for the purchase was still visible on the table,” said Tsotsotso.
When asked to identify the seller, the driver pointed to a man inside the house.

With permission to search the premises, officers uncovered an extensive dagga operation.

“In the garden, white tents were being used to grow the plants. The garage housed drying equipment, and inside the house, dagga was being packaged. The suspect was unable to produce a license to cultivate dagga,” said Tsotsotso.
All relevant authorities were called to the scene, and the illegal dagga lab was dismantled. The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing and cultivating dagga without a license.
