Double blow for drug traffickers

Police at OR Tambo International Airport seized R6m worth of crystal meth and arrested two drug mules in separate incidents.

In a crime intelligence-driven operation at OR Tambo International Airport, police intercepted a consignment of crystal meth valued at R6 million, hidden inside a wooden snooker table.

The table, destined for export to Australia, was discovered in a warehouse at the airport on December 13.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt international drug smuggling networks.

While no arrests have been made yet, police are following all leads to determine the origin of the drugs and identify those responsible for delivering the shipment.

“Police at OR Tambo International Airport continue to intercept drug traffickers and large consignments of drugs almost every week.

“Their vigilance and dedication is applauded. These drug busts should continue to send a stern warning to all drug traffickers and drug cartels that police are on high alert at Africa’s largest port of entry,” said Masemola.

Then on December 15, police intercepted two Brazilian drug mules who had landed in Johannesburg on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil.
