Police units nab 114 suspects, recover 34 vehicles and 13 firearms

Between January 17 and January 23, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 114 suspects, recovering 34 motor vehicles and 13 firearms.

Between January 17 and January 23, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 114 suspects, recovering 34 motor vehicles and 13 firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 52 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking, contravention of protection order, theft, fraud, driving under the influence of alcohol, bribery, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of unlicensed ammunition, murder and theft out of motor vehicle.

A total of 34 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 10 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

A further 13 unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying another 10 arrests.

In further policing, 42 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in all cases.
