Spiking incidents reported on major routes near Kempton Park

Authorities have identified several hotspot routes where these incidents are occurring, including the R562 and N12 near Edenvale Road.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has issued a warning to motorists following a rise in spiking incidents on roads surrounding Kempton Park.

Criminals are reportedly placing spikes on highways and main roads to force vehicles to stop, making motorists easy targets for robbery.

Recent reports indicate that at least 12 vehicles were damaged after hitting spikes on the N12 eastbound, near the Edenvale off-ramp. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Authorities have identified several hotspot routes where these incidents are occurring, including:

  • R562 (Olifantsfontein Road)
  • N3 in Leondale (Barry Marais Road)
  • N17 (Between Rondebult and Heidelberg roads)

EMPD advises motorists not to stop if they hit a spike or get a tyre puncture, especially at night.

Instead, they should continue driving slowly to the nearest petrol station or police station for safety.
