Suspected hijacker killed in late night mob justice incident

On arrival, officers found the man tied to the damaged vehicle and covered with a car tyre. He showed no signs of life.

On the evening of March 26, community members in Tsenelong Section, Thembisa, intercepted a Mercedes-Benz C230 believed to be linked to hijacking activities in the area.

According to police, officers responded to a complaint about a suspected hijacker being attacked by a mob.

On arrival, they found the man tied to the damaged vehicle, which had its petrol cap open.

The man was covered with a car tyre, his legs bound with rope and he showed no signs of life.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene and declared the unidentified man dead, after which police cordoned off the area as a crime scene.

Thembisa SAPS has opened a murder case as investigations continue.
