CoE confirms Mpho Mafole killed in Kempton Park shooting

The City of Ekurhuleni announced the death of Mpho Mafole following a fatal shooting last night, June 30, in Kempton Park.

According to Phakamile Mbengashe, head of communication, marketing and tourism for the City of Ekurhuleni, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and the matter is under active investigation by the SAPS.

“The city is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials and has pledged to do everything within its power to assist the ongoing investigation.

“We are engaging with relevant authorities and will provide further updates as soon as new information becomes available. Our thoughts are with Mr Molefe’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Mbengashe.

Scene closure and community response

The incident occurred at around 19:00 on the R23 near the M57 (Pretoria Road) in Esselen Park, Kempton Park.

Authorities closed off the R23 at the M57 as law enforcement and security teams processed the crime scene.

Emergency responders, law enforcement, and members of the Share it Live network worked together at the scene, ensuring safety and supporting Molefe’s distressed family members who had arrived.
