The murder case against former Kempton Park hairdresser Denise Hattingh resumed in the Kempton Park Regional Court, this afternoon, July 3.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that the case docket was still with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), with the court awaiting directives before a trial date can be set.

Once the docket is returned, the matter will be placed on the roll for trial either in the regional court or at the high court.

As a result, the matter was postponed once again, this time to July 9.

Hattingh’s previous appearance on June 19 was postponed due to an outstanding medical report, while a similar postponement occurred on June 5 as the court awaited a report from Johannesburg Prison.

Hattingh’s attorney, Obed Lewete, confirmed that Hattingh was doing well.

“We are ready for trial on any given date,” he said.

On May 21, Lewete told the court that although he was able to meet with Hattingh, she could not recall certain aspects of the case.

This led to the need for further verification and additional consultations with Hattingh and another complainant. At that time, Lewete stated he had received instructions to submit representations to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), arguing the case should not be treated as one of premeditated murder. He also confirmed the defence would not require assessors and noted that Hattingh was unwell. During her March 4 court appearance, the defence submitted a request that Hattingh be charged under the minimum sentence of 15 years, rather than the life sentence the State is pursuing. Both the prosecution and defence are still awaiting a decision from the DPP on this matter. Hattingh is accused of murdering 29-year-old Markus Greeff on May 15, 2024, at a property on West Street in Pomona. Hattingh is accused of murdering 29-year-old Markus Greeff on May 15, 2024, at a property on West Street in Pomona. She was arrested the following day.
