Stolen vehicles recovered, illegal liquor seized in EMPD joint operation

A two-phase joint operation led by EMPD in Winnie Mandela saw the recovery of stolen vehicles and seizure of over 1 800 liquor units from illegal taverns, while also targeting unlicensed traders.

The EMPD’s Northern Region Task Team, in collaboration with various law enforcement units, held a multi-phase operation in the Winnie Mandela area, targeting crime, by-law violations and illegal liquor trading on July 25.

A strategic operation by the EMPD.

The first phase, between 22:00 and 06:00, focused on crime prevention and yielded:
• the recovery of two vehicles reported stolen;
• the stop-and-searches of 23 vehicles;
• the confiscation of 114 bottles and cans of liquor at Tswelopele, which were booked in at the Ivory Park SAPS.

Phase 2: By-law and liquor enforcement
Phase 2, from 09:30 to 15:30, targeted unlicensed informal traders and liquor outlets without permits. This phase resulted in:
• the confiscation of goods from seven informal traders operating without valid permits;
• the seizure of 1 875 units of liquor from two illegal taverns.
The EMPD stated that these operations were part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in communities and ensure compliance with municipal by-laws and liquor regulations.
