Gauteng police step up enforcement with 81 arrests in one week
Rapid Response teams across Gauteng intensified patrols, leading to multiple arrests and recoveries of stolen vehicles, firearms and drugs.
Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 81 suspects, recovered 25 motor vehicles and two firearms, between October 10 and 16.
Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols, which led to 33 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, illegal immigrant, malicious damage to property, assault of a police officer, robbery, unlicensed ammunition, contempt of court, possession of counterfeit goods, murder, intimidation and possession of an endangered species.

A total of 25 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with six arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Two unlicensed firearms were recovered with one arrest.
In further policing, 41 arrests were made for the possession and dealing of drugs. Heroine, dagga, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and mandrax were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigation continues in these cases.
The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
