A 38-year-old man was arrested for fraud and illegal immigration in Alberton, while officers later recovered a hijacked vehicle in Tembisa after the victim was assaulted and abandoned.

Members of the EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit (CLU) arrested a 38-year-old man for fraud and recovered a hijacked vehicle in the Alberton and Tembisa areas on October 17.

Officers acted on information regarding a Zimbabwean national suspected of possessing two unlicensed firearms and printing fraudulent Home Affairs documents at his rented residence.

On arrival, the suspect was standing outside the property and permitted officers to search the property.

“The suspect was arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS for fraud and illegal immigration. He is expected to appear before the Alberton Magistrate’s Court soon,” said EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato.

Later the same day, another CLU team responded to a call for police assistance.

The victim reported that he had been hijacked and kidnapped in the early hours, forced to withdraw R10 000 at an ATM, and then abandoned by the roadside.

The victim sustained head injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officers patrolled the area and located the suspects’ maroon Jeep abandoned in an open field on Letsiakarano Street.
The vehicle was towed to the Aeroton pound.
