EMPD arrests 20 undocumented foreign nationals across Ekurhuleni

EMPD Drug Enforcement officers apprehended 20 undocumented foreign nationals during operations across Ekurhuleni, with all suspects now facing charges under the Immigration Act.

Between November 24 and November 29, EMPD Drug Enforcement and Intervention Unit officers apprehended 20 undocumented foreign nationals, aged between 18 and 59, from various African countries across the city of Ekurhuleni.

The operation targeted known hotspot areas to address the high number of undocumented foreign nationals within the borders of the Republic.

On questioning, all 20 suspects failed to provide satisfactory reasons for not being in possession of their passports.

They were subsequently handcuffed and escorted to various police stations, where immigration authorities were notified to conduct further investigations into their identification documents.

All suspects facing charges under the Immigration Act are expected to appear in the magistrates’ courts within the jurisdictions where they were apprehended.
